The body is not a machine

"The body is not and never will be a machine, no matter how much we treat it as such, and therefore body movement is not and never will be mechanical – it is always and forever expressive, simply because it is human.”

This quote is from Mary Whitehouse, the originator of Authentic Movement practice in the 1950's. The practice was inspired by Carl Jung's 'Active Imagination', a process of allowing unconscious material and insight to arise through creative process. Jung explored Active Imagination through writing and art making. Mary Whitehouse brought the practice to the body.
