Authentic Movement is a practice of tuning in and following the impulses that arise—to move, to rest, to be still, to find your own rhythm. Originated by Mary Starks Whitehouse in the 1950s (originally called, "Movement in Depth."), and inspired by Carl Jung's teachings on Active Imagination, the practice uses movement as a path to self-discovery and expression. Sessions can look like everything from gentle somatic exploration to improvised dance to deep rest, with time afterward for creative integration through writing, drawing, collage, and small-group sharing.
